Sombre Lunaire is an exploration of contrast and fluidity. Departing from the measured, precise surfaces seen in Hyo’s other works, Sobra Lunaire embraces the free movement of the organic form. Drawing reference from her heritage, this piece is inspired by the tradition Korean Moon Jars of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897), prized for their symbolic purity expressed through their pure white surface. Here the artist stains the white façade with an inky black Glaze that drips and curls around the form. The title evokes the shadow of the moon and the dramatic balance between darkness and light.
